AN Ipswich Grammar versus Brisbane Grammar football match always promises a tough battle. Ipswich Grammar took the spoils in their latest 1-0 GPS victory.

Ipswich was on the back foot early with Brisbane starting the better of the two teams. But it was Ipswich who put the runs on the board in the 15th minute.

The ever dangerous Carlton Fritz hit a pinpoint cross which found Joe Duckworth.

Duckworth showed his class with a left-footed first-time volley that left the keeper with little chance.

"It was probably the first time we got forward," coach Jamie Morgan said. "But you must take your chances when you get them."

This could not have been a truer statement as BGS created a number of chances throughout the game but could not convert them.

"We showed grit and determination today, aspects which Ipswich football is based upon," Morgan said

"Joe's finish was absolute class. He has been slotting goals left, right and centre for his club team, with 24 goals in seven games.

"I am just glad he has bought some of that goal scoring ability to us today. It was the difference between the two sides."

Morgan praised Jarred Hancock, Corey Lucas, Josh Murphy, Andrew Jarrett, Mikey Wilson, Tom Webster and Fitz for their efforts.

The players had celebrated their senior formal on Thursday night and some of the boys were struggling a little from the big week. However, they never stopped.

Ipswich travels to Toowoomba on Saturday to take on Toowoomba Grammar School in what promises to be a massive battle.

TGS is currently one point ahead of IGS on the ladder.
