Drink-driver caught on way to pub
A WINE lover blew more than five times the legal alcohol limit as he was picked up by police driving to the pub.
Ipswich Magistrates Court heard Kevin Michael Tickner, 42, was intercepted on Forest Hill-Fernvale Rd, Fernvale, on December 19.
When breath-tested, Tickner blew 0.271 - more than five times the legal limit. He told police he had drunk an unknown amount of wine throughout the day before deciding to drive to the pub.
Tickner told the court he was an alcoholic and had been diagnosed with liver disease. The court heard he had a previous conviction in 2010 after blowing 0.182.
He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor in an unregistered vehicle and sentenced to 18 months probation.
In addition he was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for two years.
Ms Sturgess said if Tickner was to come back before the court on another high-range drink-driving offence he would be sentenced to prison.
