Do-or-die as Jets eye off BRL final
TWO weeks off couldn't have come at a better time for the Ipswich Jets BRL squad.
Back-to-back losses to Wynnum and Valleys had the Jets Reserve Grade side on the ropes and searching for answers.
Coming back from retirement to play for Ipswich this season, Brendon Marshall said he needed the break more than most.
"The old body enjoyed the two weeks off,” he smiled.
"A few of the younger blokes went and played in the local league just to get some game time but every- one is looking fresh at training.
"I think it was perfect timing for us to regroup and come back a bit more switched on.”
Premiers in 2015 and grand finalist in 2016, Ipswich's chances of returning to the BRL finals were starting to slip away.
Adrift in sixth, the usually reserved BRL coach Mark Bishop had some choice words for his changes.
"Bisho had a fair few things to say after the last loss to Wynnum,” Marshall said. "He was disappointed in the way we were defending.
"We had a few wins early on but went backwards from here. We need to get some wins together is we want to play finals football.”
The Jets will have their chance when they take on the last-placed Logan Brothers from 1.15pm today at North Ipswich Reserve.
