Disappointing hockey forfeit

SWIFTS/Thistles were keen to play at the weekend as they build toward next month's Ipswich A-grade hockey finals.

However, a forfeit by Bellbowrie left the newly-formed team disappointed.

"I'm happy with where we are going at the moment,'' former A-grade player and Swifts/Thistles coach Megan Bool said of her third-placed team.

"But it's been a very disrupted year.

"We're slowly trying to get some games together so it was disappointing that we couldn't play at the weekend actually.''

Recent state open, Super League and junior tournaments have taken a club fixture toll of many teams, especially those with strong youth policies.

However, in matches played, it was a mixed weekend for Ipswich sides involved in the annual intercity competition with Toowoomba.

Hancocks beat Norths 2-0 in their latest match, with Toowoomba Past High holding out Wests 3-2 in the other A-grade women's encounter.

In men's A-grade matches, Hancocks overpowered Toowoomba Past High 5-2, Toowoomba Red Lion drew 3-3 with Easts, Newtown Toowoomba outclassed Ipswich Norths 8-2 and NR Toowoomba drew 4-4 with Wests.

The Ipswich finals start next month after the final games against Toowoomba, leading into the last round of local fixtures.
