Country comes to town and so will my mum

THE news today that international country music stars are coming to Ipswich means one special thing for me.

That is I can expect my mum will be packing her bags and joining me here next March.

And yes, that is good news.

It takes a lot to get 83-year-old Shirley up out of her comfortable lounge and away from her familiar surrounds these days.

But one thing that gets her moving is the chance to tap her toes along to some great country music.

I am sure my mother's excitement will be the same for other country music devotees around Australia.

One of the key reasons we got the Country Music Rocks Qld Concert is that the event, which we pinched from the Hunter Valley, needs a place to grow.

Willowbank Raceway was one of three areas considered in south-east Queensland.

It got the nod because of three things.

The concert promoters liked the size of the Willowbank area, its proximity to more than 1.5 million people and the early support they got from Tourism and Events Queensland and Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale.

So now it's up to us to show that we are also supportive by not only attending ourselves, but by taking family along for the show.

I know I will be.
