COMMENT: Reason to be proud of home town

IPSWICH has copped a bad rap over the years, for faults both perceived and real, but could it be that we are finally turning things around?

The latest statistics on tourism numbers certainly paint a more positive picture (see today's page six story), at least in terms of how outsiders see Ipswich.

Much has been done in recent years to change the physical appearance of our city, however it seems that a bit of self-promotion never goes astray.

Imagine a day when Ipswich football teams on their end-of-season trips will proudly proclaim that, "Yes, we are from Ipswich, Queensland.”

Maybe it isn't as ridiculous as it sounds.

Looking outside the changing CBD, Ipswich was always home to some beautiful natural attractions.

Businesses like Floating Images, Pterodactyl Helicopters and others recognised this some time ago and have been making a living showing people the spectacular views.

Here's hoping that as the tourism dollars continue to flow, more opportunities will come and Ipswich's reputation as a place people want to go will improve.
