Clean up recovers plenty of recyclables

MORE than 500kg of waste was picked up in the Lockyer Valley as part of Clean Up Australia Day.

With three Lockyer Valley teams registered on Sunday, Mayor Steve Jones congratulated the participants on their efforts.

"Not only were we able to collect a lot of rubbish but we were also able to collect a lot of recyclable items which have been taken to the Materials Recycling Facility to be recycled," Cr Jones said.

It is estimated about 380kg of waste was disposed of at the landfill while about 130kg was taken to the MRF.

"In total we had about 50 volunteers and I would like to thank everyone for giving up their time to help keep the Lockyer Valley clean," Cr Jones said.

"I would also like to acknowledge the Withcott Hotel for kindly putting on a free sausage sizzle and refreshments to the Withcott participants."
