City v country, flair v grit in final showdown
WE kicked off on March 3 with seven clubs looking at raising the City of Ipswich Cup in the Rugby League Ipswich competition.
It's now a battle between the Fassifern Bombers and Norths Tigers. It's city v country and it's flair v grit.
The Bombers will go in red-hot favourites on a run that has seen them undefeated since late March.
It's been a 16 game streak where Fassifern have accounted for every club in the competition at least twice and some clubs three times.
Fassifern's forwards are big and strong and only know one direction to run.
The backline under Rugby League Ipswich player of the year Aaron Adcock has the flair and speed to score tries from anywhere in the park.
The Tigers will have to be on their game and have a no-frills forward pack that will need to roll their sleeves up and get down and dirty.
Sam Martin will be the key but he will need the rest of the pack to follow him.
While Martin in the forwards will be a key, Josh Roberts will need to spark the backline if the Tigers are to achieve victory.
Who wins this game?
The Bombers have to be favourites but don't discount a Tigers team that have some experienced finals players.
HERO of the week 1: It has to be John Millman. The man faced the greatest of all-time in Roger Federer and miraculously worked out how to beat him.
Hero of the week 2: Huge congratulations to Ipswich's Ali Brigginshaw who was given the huge honour of captaining the Broncos in their inaugural season. The right choice was made.
Villain of the week: The knuckleheads from the Canterbury Bulldogs for their poor Mad Monday behaviour. It's okay to let your hair down after a long season but surely you can find a better way. It wasn't a good look for our great game.
Did you know? 1. That half an hour after the running of the Melbourne Cup, you can bet on the following year's Cup.
2. A regular golf ball has 336 dimples.
Bomber's best: My three footy tips all saluted last week so I will stay in the NRL where I see the Rabbits and Warriors winning their respective semi-finals.
