Cinema boss hoses down rumours of gold class expansion
RUMOURS that the space vacated by Rebel Sport and Commonwealth Bank was set to become gold class cinemas at Sunshine Plaza have been put to bed.
Event Cinemas' general manager of communications, Michael Morcos, said it was "just speculation", when asked whether the busy cinema had been planning an expansion.

It was instead revealed by Sunshine Plaza centre manager Michael Manwaring that a "massive" arcade would open in the space, after Rebel Sport and Commonwealth Bank both shifted inside the newly-expanded $440 million shopping centre.
Mr Manwaring said the 2500sq m Timezone arcade, with room for ten pin bowling, laser tag and more, was due to open in September.
Its opening would follow the highly-anticipated high ropes course and completion of the new outdoor dining and entertainment precinct.
Mr Manwaring said the new space wouldn't just be for arcade games, with plenty of all-age activities to be included.
"It's a big Timezone... it's two-and-a-half thousand square metres," he said.
Mr Morcos said they had "no news to share" on any possible cinema expansion in future either.
The $440 million Sunshine Plaza redevelopment opened in late-March, making the Maroochydore centre the largest shopping centre north of Brisbane.
The Coast's first David Jones was part of the redevelopment.
