Captain set to inspire Rangers in local derby
RUGBY UNION: Ipswich Rangers host a bumper day of rugby at Woodend Park on Saturday with captain Kieran Lake to lead the Barber Cup side with distinction against Goodna in the derby.
The Rangers are led by flanker and captain Kieran Lake who continues to impress.
"Kieran's work ethic is sensational to be honest and you'd love to have him in any team,” club president Jason Dutton said.
"He definitely leads from the front and plays with a whole lot of energy.
"Kieran has been very solid for the club for 10 years or more and came up through our colts team.
"He has been a member of the senior playing group since then. He takes the ball up very well and hits hard in the tackles.
"He is also one of our lineout boys.”
The Pegg Cup kicks off at 1.40pm and is followed by the Barber Cup clash at 3pm.
Those two games will be preceded by juniors, then over 35s at noon and an exhibition under eight match.
The matches will be watched by the Rangers' former players as it is Old Boys day.
"It is a really good day and we get all our life members back,” Dutton said.
"Some of them travel back from the Sunshine Coast to get here. It is excellent for them to mingle with all the new guys who are at the club.”
