Campbell returning to Bandits as Musketeers pitch ahead

EVER-reliable Musketeers pitcher Dean Jones is among those keen to continue Ipswich's winning run on home soil.

Although he's only suffered one loss on the mound this season, Jones enjoys throwing at Tivoli where he's enjoyed many successful outings in his 12 seasons in A Grade.

In their fifth series in a row away from home, Musketeers beat Lightning 4-2 at Pine Hills today after a 9-3 win on Friday night at the same venue.

"It'll be good to finish before Christmas at home,'' Jones said.

Jones said the team vibe was excellent as Musketeers push to clinch second spot before the Christmas break.

American import Ryan Torrey threw eight innings to wrap up Friday night's win. Jones took charge on the mound today, only conceding two runs from eight innings.

"I'm pretty happy,'' Jones said of his form.

"I started off the season not throwing too many so you can get into the season a bit further without getting too sore.''

His only loss pitching was 1-0 to competition leaders Redsox.

Ipswich scored four runs early in today's tight struggle. Steve Greer and Wade Dutton ignited the hitting.

"We're travelling alright,'' Jones said. "It's a good team to be in.

"It makes a massive difference when your fielders are backing you up.''

However, the winning weekend performance was important with another US import CJ Jacobe injured.

He'll miss next weekend's home series after hurting his knee sliding into second base on Friday night.

In better news, Ipswich-based national league player Andrew Campbell has been cleared to rejoin the Brisbane Bandits for their road trip to Adelaide next weekend.

Campbell rested his strained knee yesterday while cheering on his Musketeers teammates.

Musketeers play the Wests Bulldogs on Friday night and Sunday afternoon at the Tivoli Sporting Complex diamonds.

That is Ipswich's final round of games before the Christmas break and a welcome home coming after some solid performances on the road.
