BROTHERS have started their bid for an Ipswich Rugby League grand slam well by beating Eastern Cobras 26-20 in this afternoon's grand final at the North Ipswich Reserve.

Brothers' defence was the key, giving captain Nick Roberts plenty to be proud of.

"A few things didn't go our way but we defended out of our skins,'' Roberts said.

However, Swifts shattered Brothers hat-trick hopes with a 28-24 win in this afternoon's Reserve grade grand final.

Swifts recovered from a 10-0 deficit to also join in the celebrations.

"They dug deep when needed,'' Swifts five-eighth and man of the match Tyran Chapman said of his forwards.
