UPDATE, 7AM: Emergency services report that the fire in bushland near Staines Memorial College at Redbank Plains is currently burning safe and within containment lines and was monitored overnight.

Crews will return to the area this morning and residents can expect smoke in the area for the next few days.

 

6AM: The fire brigade was fighting a blaze in bushland near Staines Memorial College at Redbank Plains last night.

The fire broke out at 6.15pm and fire fighters were forced to do a back burn.

Police were on the scene to control traffic in School Rd.

The fire was a cause for concern as it was burning just 400m from the school.

An earlier fire in bushland in a vacant block of land in Smiths Rd, Goodna was brought under control.

The fire broke out at 5.30pm and was put out an hour later.
