Apology event must be honoured
THE anniversary of Kevin Rudd's apology to the stolen generations was marked in Ipswich yesterday with a ceremony at the Kambu Medical Service.
Bringing Them Home councillor Rhonda Chapman said the day held as much significance now as it did when Mr Rudd first read the apology in 2008.
"I think it's important to continue commemorating it. It is important for us to acknowledge it has happened," she said.
Ms Chapman said the affect of the Stolen Generation on aboriginal people transcended generations.
"It impacted on everyone, not only the older generations, the young people as well. Having Rudd apologise, it was really important for everyone to hear it and understand what happened."
