Action off the hook for all motor fans at Willowbank
WOW - what a weekend!
The Ipswich Classic was off the hook, with more than 150 cars competing around the Queensland Raceway circuit.
With everything from the Hyundai Excel Cup and the Production Sports One Hour to HQs, Formula Vees, Trans Ams and Classic Sports Sedan racers; I had a hard time knowing where to look over the two big days.
Congratulations in particular have to go to Brett Kennedy, who took out the Queensland Touring Car Championship over 2014 champ Karl Begg in a very exciting contest.
With motorsport being what it is, no one wanted to call it coming into the weekend despite Kennedy being in a good position, but his made sure he did everything he could to come away successful.
Amongst all the circuit racing action, I made sure I took some time out to take in the Test 'n' Tunes at both the Willowbank Raceway drag strip and the Dirt Kart Club.
There were plenty of hard racers at both venues and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
This week, it is all about Street Series champions at the drag strip - with Wednesday hosting the final of the Powder Puff category and October 31 set to find champions in both the Street Sedan and Street Bike categories.
Emerging victorious from a top eight of fast and fierce female racers on Wednesday was Susanne Fletcher.
The excitement for both her and her family (son Josh is especially handy on the spanners when he isn't racing his own Street Sedan) was obvious.
Watching the Street Series competitors battle it out in the eliminations format is pretty cool, as for the rest of the year they compete in the Chicago shootout or 'round robin' style.
The eliminations format really adds an extra level of intensity.
With plenty of intense action all season long by the Street Series racers, I can't wait to see who takes the wins in the hard-fought Sedan and Bike brackets on October 31.
While we wait though, there is plenty to do in the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct this weekend, with a QR Moto Ride Day on Saturday and the Ipswich Open Sprints on Sunday at QR, while Saturday will host another great Test 'n' Tune opportunity for everyone to test their mettle on the drag strip in their own car or bike. Johnny Speed will be there - I hope you will too.
