Irish tourist suffers critical head injury at Kings Cross
AN IRISH tourist is in a critical condition after allegedly being punched in the head by his brother at Kings Cross in Sydney.
Patrick Lyttle, 32, underwent emergency surgery on Saturday at St Vincent's Hospital after he hit the footpath early on Saturday morning and sustained a serious head injury.
His brother, Barry Lyttle, cried in court and did not apply for bail as he faced a charge of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
"Once again alcohol seems to have played a part," Magistrate Anthony Spence said.
Police said the two men, who were travelling around Australia with their father from Belfast, got into an argument before a fight broke out.
Kings Cross detective Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald called the incident a "family tragedy".
He said the men's father was in shock.
"The pain in his eyes, you could not describe it."
