10-man Knights hold on for BPL draw

AFTER being 2-0 up, the Ipswich Knights could easily have been another two goals in front.

However, a number of near misses and having goalkeeper Declan Murphy controversially sent off ended any hopes of a runaway football victory.

A 10-man Knights outfit battled manfully to keep Rochedale to a 2-2 draw in today's Brisbane Premier League match at Bundamba.

Murphy received a red card for his effort guarding the net in an aerial duel early in the second half.

With the Knights still ahead 2-1 from a terrific Eliott White double, the home side conceded again before a tense final 15 minutes.

That included playing with nine men while tenacious defender Devon Munn had a head cut cleaned and patched up before he returned.

In the end, the Knights deserved three points, especially after their committed first half.

However, Rochedale made the most of their lucky breaks to leave Ipswich with a handy point.

Replacement goalkeeper Alex Finlayson did a terrific job replacing Murphy.

BPL: Ipswich Knights 2 (Elliot White 2) drew Rochedale 2.

Reserves: Rochedale 2 d Ipswich Knights 1 (Chris Scott).
